3- PenguinWatch - Meet Snowdrop and Romeo - King Penguins

I have two special guests for the blog this week. The video got a bit longer than the previous ones but I couldn't decide on cutting anything. Enjoy!

  1. Hello Mr Ross - we liked watching the penguins. We thought it was funny when you were giving Snowdrop a shower and feeding her. She didn't look too keen on having her feet washed. It was very interesting how you need to put water inside the fish and how you have to put the fish in their mouth in a special way so they don't choke.
Where did the oil come from? Are there other animals that are affected by the oil? How many penguins have been rescued at the centre?
We are looking forward to your next video - they are so interesting. We would like to find out about what its like to be a pupil at your school and what the children do after school as well.
    Best wishes from Class 6/7
PS We hope you enjoyed the ball.

  2. Hi P6/7. I am glad you enjoyed the video. I showed it to my class here too and they also enjoyed the bit where she was being sprayed down.
It is not clear where the oil on their feathers came from. While they are both King penguins they turned up on different beaches, almost 100 miles apart, and probably did not pick it up in the same place. I will have to ask the centre how often this kind of thing happens and if other animals are often affected. I know that from time to time they also bring in animals who are injured and need treatment. Just now though it is only Romeo and Snowdrop.
I will try to get another video made for you soon.
    Best wishes, Mr Ross
PS The ball was super. I even won a short holiday to the West side of the Falkland Islands in the raffle!
