I spent my Peat Cutting bank holiday out looking for wildlife. Here is a quick video and some pictures of what we found. I'll aim to get a video sorted about life at my new school for sometime next week.
On the way to Surf Bay I popped in to see SnowDrop and Romeo. They are very well and are now very accustomed to humans. They waddle over happily and eat as much fish as you will give them. They should be heading back to the wild in 3 or 4 weeks.
Hello, we enjoyed watching the gentoo penguins. It must be quite scary to be so close male sea lion. Why don't the penguins set off the mines? Maybe they are too peedie and light? Do they like the beach because there are no humans allowed.
ReplyDeleteWe are going on October holidays for 2 weeks. We will look forward to catching up with you when we get back.
Would your class like us to make up a box of things from Orkney and send it to you? It could be like a surprise box of typical things we gather up over the holidays...
Best wishes from Class 6/7
Hello all in Class 6/7,
DeleteI think you are correct that the Penguins do not set off the mines because they are too peedie! I think you are also correct that it lets the penguins live in peace without humans being there. I suppose a sea lion could set off a mine if it was unfortunate, I have not heard of that happening though.
You are fortunate to have a two week holiday, my current school only gets one week in October. I bet you will be jealous when you hear about my Christmas holiday though... (See response to other post below.)
A box of things would be really lovely! If you do I would be able to show it to my class here.
I hope you all enjoy the new video!
Mr Ross
We are just back from October holidays. The clocks have gone back and the days are much shorter. Ire your seasons the same as ours? Is the day length similar at this time of year? Looking forward to your next post!
ReplyDeleteGreat question guys!
DeleteBecause I am in the southern hemisphere it is Spring here now. The days are beginning to get longer already. At the minute it gets light around 6am and dark at about 8pm. I guess your days are far shorter than that by now.
Christmas will be odd this year because it will be the middle of summer with long days and sunshine. School finishes on December the 15th and we have a five week Summer/Christmas holiday! So I am looking forward to that.
Have a great week everyone,
Mr Ross
